About Matt

The third of five children, Matt Tandy was born in Misawa, Japan, in 1982 to a U.S. Air Force family. He spent most of his youth in the heavily military city of San Antonio, Texas and graduated high school there. He has subsequently attended private colleges and has been working full-time to support his family while finishing his Bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University. He will graduate in April 2012 with a degree in Ancient Near Eastern Studies with a focus in biblical Hebrew. He is happily married, has one son, two cats, and a dog.

As a child. Matt lived in Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. He then moved on his own to Australia for two years, followed by the small Texas town of Kerrville, then to Houston, Texas where he met his beautiful wife and was married three months later.Together they subsequently moved to Utah to conclude school and where Matt currently works as a Senior Manager for a premium provider of property management services.

Matt has had books running around in his head since as long as he could remember. In the past five years, he started five blogs and four books, with fleshed out ideas for seven more. None of them lasted longer than three days.

All of that changed in 2011 when two events changed his life: His father was diagnosed with Leukemia, and Matt was sent in his aspiring father's place to a writer's conference. His first 15-pages of the thriller The Militia, a work-in-progress, were well received in an all day critique session, and over the next few days he was enthralled by the tutelage of authors such as David Wolverton (Farland), Dan Wells, Larry Brooks, Traci Abramson, and Gregg Luke. For the first time he had clear direction as his stories suddenly seemed achievable.

Matt has since created the daily blog "Matthew Tandy - The Working Writer" where he has chronicled his efforts from day one to become a successful published author, offering personal insight, sharing in triumphs and pitfalls, and hopefully inspiring others to pursue their dreams.

While he is a fan of all literary genres, Matt is currently focusing on his debut thriller, The Militia, the first in a trilogy. The remaining novels are tentatively titled A Nation Divided, and United We Stand.


Future projects include a short general humorous fiction novel and an epic fantasy series. Details will be released in the future.
